I’m not changing; I’m choosing…

I didn't change; I chose.

I’ve been reflecting on this for a few days now. I saw a quote that said, "I'm not changing, I'm choosing." This felt more empowering to me. When I say I’ve changed or I’m changing, it feels like there's a loss or grief, a letting go and surrender, which there absolutely is. But within that, there is a depth in choosing different options, carving a different path, and braving a new way guided by the memory of what was always there in the first place. When I choose, it’s a deliberate act. It might not always lead me down the "right" path, but where lessons are learned and opportunities to grow present themselves, there can be no right or wrong choice—just a moral compass to help guide us.

I see many people bravely making different choices and then struggling when they feel they have changed and may no longer fit where they once did. I hear people referring to others needing to catch up with them, to awaken. But we are all in this together as a collective. Maybe we can choose to be content with ourselves, at home in our own bodies, align more with our morals, and become the person we wish to see more of in the world. The rest will take care of itself. It starts with you, one by one, but first, you have to deliberately choose your first step forward. When we give ourselves permission to unapologetically be ourselves, through radical self-acceptance, we pave the way for others to do the same.
